Decision to shave is personal preference

Dear Emily,

I feel like I’m getting to the point where I should start shaving my legs, when did you start shaving yours, and when should I start?

Dear Curious,

I started shaving my legs in the beginning of sixth grade. When you start shaving your legs it really varies on who you are. Some girls have darker leg and underarm hair then others, so if you do have darker hair, then that may be a reason to start sooner then some of your friends. There is no rush to shave your legs. In fact I would hold off as long as you can. Most of the time, once you start shaving, your have to do it regularly. You really have to be the judge of when to start shaving your legs. Like I said, darker-haired girls at times shave earlier then the blondes, but it really depends on your comfort level. Something else that is important to consider before shaving is if you really need to. Along with what your guardian may think, ask them for tips on how to do it because it does take some practice. There will be times were you slit your leg, that’s normal.

Dear Emily,

I’m in a big group of friends and we always want to do something, but we always just end up at one of each others house, not really doing much. What is something more exciting that we could do that is more affordable and fun?

Dear Friend,

Fortunately, there are many things that you guys could do, but you just have to take initiative of the big group and plan something. Something fun and affordable is just being able to go to a park or lake and have a cookout. Since you’re such a big group, having volleyballs and Frisbees is always a good idea. Have everyone bring something along with them. Snacks are always a good idea, so have the whole group tag in and make it a fun long day.
